What is Brainspotting?
Brainspotting is a gentle, yet powerful, brain-body based therapy that uses specific eye placements, in conjunction with body sensations, and relational attunement, to provide deep and lasting results. Interestingly, your eyes are a direct pathway to the parts of the brain that store memory, emotions, and basic bodily functions. When we access the brain that way you are able to untangle and process the specific symptoms you are experiencing on a deeper, more profound, level.

Is Brainspotting like EMDR?
Brainspotting has similar qualities to EMDR, and is considered an advanced EMDR technique. However, they differ in a number of ways. David Grand, the founder of Brainspotting, developed the therapy method after finding that some clients felt overwhelmed with EMDR, due to the rapid eye movements EMDR uses to access past traumas. However, with Brainspotting we work together to find specific eye placements in a slower more attuned manner. While Brainspotting derived from EMDR, Brainspotting has been found to be more adaptable to client needs. It is more than a trauma therapy, and can be used with a variety of situations, including performance challenges, to enhance creativity, work stress, addiction, and other life challenges. It does not require much talking and research has shown that clients heal faster and deeper with Brainspotting than other therapy methods.
Does Brainspotting work online?
That is a great question. I am sure it is hard to imagine Brainspotting being as effective online, but Mindful Reflections has been working strictly online since COVID-19 started and have seen amazing results. We tailor sessions to make sure that healing is not compromised due to current circumstances. Some clients even report that they like it better because they do not have to leave the comfort of their own home, and have found it easier to be consistent in attending sessions.
